The role of ideology that I played for rise to power was the territorial expansion and of how France always was conquered by me. Beside's that I had succeeded in extending his overlordship from the Elbe River in the northeast to south of the Pyrenees in the southwest and from the North Sea to southern Italy. I ruled all of the Christianized western provinces, except the British Isles, that had once been part of the Roman Empire.
I spent the early part of my reign on several military campaigns to expand his kingdom. I invaded Saxony in 772 and eventually achieved its total conquest and conversion to Christianity. I also extended my dominance to the south, conquering the kingdom of the Lombards in northern Italy. In 778, I invaded northern Spain, then controlled by the Moors. Between 780 and 800, I added Bohemia to my empire and subdued the Avars in the middle Danube basin to form a buffer state for the eastern border of his empire.
In 800 a rebellion against Pope Leo III began. It was a rebellion in Rome, and my goal was to defeat or dismiss that rebellion, and it was a success.
